In August 2023, I had the privilege of collaborating with the Hummingbird Project team at BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre on the design of a poster and extended visual identity for the Stillbirth Happens-let’s talk podcast. Working closely with Ann Pederson, Director of Population and Global Health, Lana Sullivan, Project Manager, and consulting with Erin Bohn and Jaime Ascher from the project team, I embarked on a three-month engagement to bring their vision to life.

The result was a visually captivating poster introducing the podcast, featuring episode details, hosts, guests, and access information. At the heart of the design lay a poignant illustration concept of a lush garden centering on the names of stillborn children wrapped around flowers. Above, soft clouds form the base for quotes from bereaved parents who bravely shared their stories on the podcast.

Additionally, I crafted a cohesive visual identity for a presentation deck, ensuring alignment with the project’s overarching theme and purpose, along with bookmarks for conference attendees. The culmination of our efforts was the successful printing of the poster on canvas, which was proudly presented by the BCW team at a panel during the 2023 PAIL Connected in Care Conference in Toronto. Through these creative endeavours, we aimed to amplify the voices of those affected by stillbirth, fostering a space for learning, grieving, and connection within the podcast’s narrative.
